How it works
On iPhone and Android, the local Wi-Fi address is assigned by the router and is useful for nearby-network troubleshooting. On mobile data, the carrier may use shared gateways, so the public IP can be different for different services or change frequently. Modern devices may also use private Wi-Fi addressing, which is separate from the public IP seen by a website.
Wi-Fi and mobile data can show different public addresses, so check while connected to the network relevant to your issue. A VPN can also change the address that a website sees without changing the local Wi-Fi address shown in device settings.
Avoid sharing screenshots that include Wi-Fi names, nearby network details, or device identifiers unless support genuinely needs them. Usually the public IP and a brief description of the connection are enough.
